SHOOK MAN
Shook Man® is a character used to normalise talking about anxieties, fears and feelings.
Why ‘Shook Man’?
'Shook' is London, UK slang for fear. 'Shook Man' represents the universal aspect of fear in all humans, transcending age & gender.
Isn’t he scary!?
Children & young people love Shook Man and enjoy playing with a Shook Man figure. However, a young girl once raised an important question: "Why does he resemble a fork?"
WORKSHOP STRUCTURE
Children develop resilience and emotional awareness using a transformative structure
WEEK 1
-
In the first session students shine a light on their fearful thoughts. Students normalise talking about feelings and build empathy by learning that everyone has fears & doubts.
WEEK 2
-
In the second session, they discover their ‘shook story’ (a fearful perspective they hold) and how it makes them act. They leave equipped to spot their fears and its effect on them.
WEEK 3
-
In the third session, students create a visual representation of their fears linked to their ‘shook story’. They powerfully establish that their self-worth is not tied to their fears.
WEEK 4
-
In the final session, students learn that fear is not real and exists in their imagination. They discover that if they focus on fear they act fearfully, and when they focus on joy, they can overcome fear. They have power to choose!
